Children's Programs

Jesus said, "Let the little children come unto me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." Matthew 19:14

First Baptist Church of Marietta welcomes children of all ages to participate in activities planned especially for them on Sundays and Wednesday evenings and in special programs throughout the year.

SUNDAY

Sign In (9:10 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.)
Parents and other adults accompanying children from pre-kindergarten through fifth grade are requested to sign them in at the welcome center in the church vestibule where important information about the morning’s activities will be provided. As part of the new rotation model Sunday School Program, children meet in a different classroom each Sunday. At sign in, parents learn where their children will be at pickup time, and security badges are given to children and adults.
Babies through children age 3 are signed in at the nursery.

Nursery

During the church service care is provided for babies through children age 3 in the nursery, which is located on the second floor of the Educational Building.

Children’s Church (9:30 a.m.-10:45 a.m.)
Children from pre-kindergarten (ages 4 or 5) through fifth grade attend the regular worship service through the Children’s Story, and then they move to the third floor of the Educational Building for Children’s Church.

In addition to a Bible story and related activities, children spend part of this time practicing for the Children’s Choir that sings once a month during the worship service and for other events such as the church services provided for the residents of the Marietta Center in November.

Sunday School (10:45 a.m.-11:45 a.m.)

  • Babies and children through 1 or 2 years old are cared for in the nursery.
  • Children ages 2 and 3 are taught in a classroom near the nursery.
  • After Children’s Church, adults (shepherds) escort children in four age groups (pre-kindergarten, kindergarten/first grade, second/third grade, and fourth/fifth grade) to their classrooms for the day. These age groups learn one Bible story for an entire month through traveling to a different learning station each Sunday. The children experience the Bible theme in different ways at each of the stations: Storytelling, Movie Theater, Art, and Science. Materials are geared to each age group as children progress through the stations. Stations are located in classrooms on the second and third floors of the Educational Building.

WEDNESDAY

Nursery
During the programs that begin after the 5:45 p.m. congregational meal, babies through kindergarten-age children are cared for in the nursery, located on the second floor of the Educational Building.

Faith Weaver Friends

Children from kindergarten through fifth grade gather in the Youth Center at 6:15 p.m. (September through May) for Faith Weaver Friends. They are encouraged to bring their friends and their Bibles (Bibles will be provided for children who do not bring them).

Faith Weaver Friends learn about God’s word by memorizing Bible verses, hearing and acting out Bible stories, and singing songs about Bible characters and events. Through journaling, they react to what they have learned, and they have fun playing games together.

Children also learn about helping others by contributing materials and money to mission projects that assist those in need in the local community, as well as other countries such as Haiti.

OTHER ACTIVITIES

Kid’s Day Out
This family-oriented event is designed to help the children get to know each other better as they share a special activity such as a field trip to Fenton Art Glass in Williamstown or skating at the Marietta Roller Rink.

Vacation Bible School
Children through fifth grade (grade just completed) are invited to attend Vacation Bible School June 20-24, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m. Children learn God’s word through a variety of theme-base activities including storytelling, crafts, and music.

Special Events

  • Easter Egg Hunt: Saturday prior to Easter.
  • Hanging of the Greens + Marietta Christmas Parade: Saturday after Thanksgiving. Children help decorate the church, along with youth and adults, eat lunch, and the ride or walk in the parade.
